Louis Carter Onwugbenu Opens New Vocational Center in Nnewi
ONITSHA – In an unprecedented step to transform vocational education in Nigeria, Nnewi-native tycoon and celebrated benefactor, Sir Louis Carter Onwugbenu (Okpataozuora), initiated construction of the Louis Carter International Vocational School by laying the cornerstone on April 25, 2025, within the boundaries of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The visionary project, inspired by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his first son, Emeka Onwugbenu, studied, marked a major milestone in Sir Onwugbenu’s lifelong mission of giving back to society.
The website will showcase key facilities such as Father’s House, a chapel, the foundation’s secretariat, administrative offices, and classrooms, along with various other structures.
Overseeing the cornerstone laying event was his lordship, Most Reverend Jonas Benson Okoye, the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, along with a gathering of prominent business figures from Nnewi and esteemed visitors hailing from various parts of the nation.
Dignitaries in attendance at the event included notable Catholic priests, Prince Samben Nwosu (YPP Senatorial aspirant), Hon. Innocent Okoli (CEO, Organizer Oil and Gas), Sir Arthur Ngwugbe, Sir Joseph Onyejepu (Joe White), Lady Nwangwu, Sir Tony Nwangwu, Sir Emeka Obinwa, Sir Ndubuisi Okoli, and others.
In a Mass to mark the event, Bishop Okoye hailed Sir Onwugbenu as a beacon of Christian charity and urged Christians to engage in projects that advance the Kingdom of God and uplift humanity. He emphasized that the dream, conceived as far back as 2013, has now become a reality through God’s grace and Sir Onwugbenu’s unwavering commitment.
Bishop Okoye assured that the Louis Carter Education Foundation would be preserved and nurtured for generations to come, pledging to personally ensure its sustainability.
At the event, Sir Onwugbenu referred to the establishment as a "miracle" in his personal story, sharing that his enduring dedication to charity stems from thankfulness toward God. He voiced optimism about the organization becoming one of the top ones in Nigeria and promised swift progress on all current initiatives.
"Miracles occurred at St. Louis Catholic Church in Uruguay, even with the restricted area. Given our extensive land now available, more remarkable events will take place here," he affirmed.
Sir Onwugbenu likewise expressed gratitude to Bishop Okoye for his consistent backing, seeking divine fortitude for him as he continues his ministry within the Church and for mankind.
The highlights of the event featured the ceremonial placement of the cornerstone by Sir Onwugbenu personally, along with an escorted visit through the planned site.
