Wike Hires 34 Resident Doctors to Strengthen FCT Healthcare (International Edition)
ABUJA — As part of an important initiative to enhance medical facilities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has sanctioned the hiring of 34 Resident Doctors for their Residency Training program, with these positions set to last for a fixed period of seven years.
The recently enrolled physicians make up the initial group of 60 Medical Residency Trainees spread across eight departments and specializations at Federal Capital Territory (FCT) hospitals, approved by the Minister.
The Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister for Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, stated in a press release on Wednesday that this initiative will improve healthcare services within the Federal Capital Territory.
"This marks the initial instance of such an initiative for individuals beyond the Health Management Board staff, thus providing doctors with greater opportunities and introducing more skilled professionals to healthcare services within the FCT," Olayinka noted.
The distribution of new doctors hired comprises five for the psychiatry department, four for internal medicine, one for general surgery, one for anesthesiology, eight for family medicine, six for ophthalmology, and nine for obstetrics and gynecology.
Olayinka disclosed that the FCTA Civil Service Commission was about to initiate the hiring process for an additional 26 Resident Doctors. This new group will consist of one doctor for Psychiatry, four for Internal Medicine, eight for General Surgery, five for Anesthesiology, and another eight for Pediatrics.
This step is anticipated to fill staffing shortages at FCT hospitals and enhance availability of specialized medical services for local residents.
