LEGO Unveils $1.3 Billion Eco-Friendly Factory in Vietnam

The Danish toy company LEGO Group opened its inaugural facility in Vietnam, a sustainable project valued at more than $1.3 billion, within the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III located in the southern province of Binh Duong.

The facility opened on Wednesday and will provide jobs for around 4,000 employees. This move aims to strengthen LEGO’s distribution network across Asia, highlighting their dominance in the international toy production sector.

The establishment of this facility, which marks LEGO's sixth worldwide location and second in Asia, has been facilitated through collaborative efforts among the Vietnamese government, various ministries, agencies, and local authorities in Binh Duong. This initiative aims to draw more high-technology and environmentally conscious foreign investments.

When completely functional, the factory will operate solely using renewable energy provided by an integrated onsite solar system. This initiative aims to set a standard for environmentally friendly production processes and aid Vietnam’s transition towards a more sustainable, circular economic framework.

The CEO of the LEGO Group, Niels B. Christiansen, described this as a strategic step to increase production capabilities within the Asia-Pacific region, while also emphasizing the company's ongoing dedication to sustainability.

Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh praised LEGO's investment as an enhancement of Binh Duong's standing as a center for international producers , citing its prime location, strong transport links, and pro-business climate.

LEGO is also developing Vietnam’s workforce by having more than 100 international specialists train local technical and managerial personnel. The firm intends to collaborate with education organizations to introduce play-based learning to over 60,000 Vietnamese children within this year.

A distribution facility in the neighboring province of Dong Nai, which will be their second logistics center in Asia, is also scheduled to open before the end of this year.
