Govt Launches New Directorate for Retiree Services: A Boost for Post-Service Life

The Head of Service for Lagos State, Mr Olabode Agoro, has declared the launch of the Post-Service Department within the HoS office. This department aims to handle issues related to welfare and assist with lifestyle changes following retirement.

On Tuesday, Agoro disclosed this information during a farewell event for the third and fourth quarters of 2024 as well as the first quarter of 2025. The occasion was celebrated in honor of retiring employees at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja.

"Please reach out to the Post-Service Directorate for additional information. This program aims to encourage social engagement, reduce feelings of isolation, and facilitate a smoother adjustment to retirement," said the Head of State.

He restated the state government's dedication to enhancing the well-being of retired civil servants, promising ongoing assistance to 223 retirees from various levels within the main civil service sector.

Agoro praised the retirees for their decades of commitment and service to the state, highlighting that their efforts were crucial to the state’s progress.

"I genuinely appreciate your service. Nevertheless, I encourage you not to consider this as the conclusion. The Lagos State Government might still contact you to utilize your expertise for additional tasks," he stated.

He motivated the retirees to remain active by leveraging the numerous post-retirement programs launched by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

The administration has implemented plans and programs aimed at keeping retirees engaged and maintaining their connection with the government.

"These consist of bi-monthly webinars, quarterly training and awareness programs, skill development and vocational training, along with mentorship initiatives," he pointed out.

He encouraged them to investigate the chances for empowerment to stay involved and potentially become job providers.

"These programs have the potential to create additional sources of income for you while keeping you actively involved in economic activities. Consider using them as a platform to launch your own venture or to support community growth," he recommended.

Mrs. Bukonla Durodola, who heads the Postal Services Department, honored the retiring employees, praising their commitment and professionalism throughout their careers.

She stated, "Your efforts towards the progress of Lagos State have been impressive, and your outstanding behavior serves as an example for others within the civil service."
