Ethiopian Catholic Church Honors Pope Francis with Special Memorial Services

Addis Ababa, April 26, 2025 (ENA) -- The Ethiopian Catholic Church mourned the death of Pope Francis today with memorial mass and funeral rites at Lideta Catholic Cathedral.

President Taye Atske Selassie along with leaders from various religious sects were present at the memorial funeral service.

The funeral services of the pontiff were conducted at St. Peter's Square today and he was laid to rest.

President Taye signed the memorial guestbook.

He similarly expressed his profound grief regarding the death of Pope Francis.

President Taye highlighted that Pope Francis was a genuine servant of God, devoted to aiding those who were oppressed and bringing love and compassion to the world.

He similarly remembered how quickly the Pope reacted to crisis-stricken countries, emphasizing his position as a caring leader.

President Taye also highlighted the pope's commitment to praying for those who are less fortunate.

The Addis Ababa Catholic Church Diocese saw Auxiliary Bishop Tesfa Selassie commending the Pope for his dedication as a servant of God.

He recalled him as a caring and unpretentious leader who soothed those in mourning, helped those in need, and continuously prayed and labored for worldwide peace.

Kesis Tagay Tadele, the General Secretary of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, highlighted the significance of drawing inspiration from Pope Francis’ heritage of aiding those in need and advocating for peace through prayer.

Muluneh Tesfaye, who is a member of the church, said that Pope Francis emphasized universal love devoid of discrimination.

A fellow participant, Misrach Assefa, characterized the Pope as a compassionate individual who empathized with the suffering of those affected.
