Ask Us Anything: Our 2025 Mini Countryman SE Is Here!

The crossover priced at $51,145 comes with a round display and has an estimated range of up to 212 miles per charge.

People have an inclination to dislike Mini, despite various reasons. Post-2003 Coopers gained recognition as nimble little speedsters, yet they've often been caricatured as problematic vehicles to possess. Certain aficionados hoped that Mini would address issues related to their cars' dependability. To some extent, this improvement was made; however, the brand largely concentrated on diversifying with models like the somewhat larger Countryman—a compact SUV. Since its debut in 2010, the Countryman has borne much of the criticism aimed at Mini due to these ongoing concerns.

For the last 15 years, every car lover has been asking, 'That isn't a Mini; why are they making such an uninteresting crossover?'

In 2025, the Countryman returns, larger than ever before. The gasoline-driven S model has returned, however, our main focus is now on the fully electric SE version. While I won’t try to justify the vehicle’s dimensions as they somewhat contradict the essence of what defines a Mini, I feel like the discussion around these points might be getting old-fashioned. The Countryman is part of BMW Group’s initiative to vie for dominance in the international electric vehicle market. This development also signals the beginning of a revival period for Mini, a brand that has faced declining sales and uncertainty regarding its position within BMW's strategic plans and the broader automotive marketplace.

Beneath the surface, the Countryman SE is a petite electric SUV comparable in size to the BMW X1. It draws power from a twin-motor configuration delivering 308 horsepower to all four wheels via a modestly sized 64.6 kWh (effective) battery pack. The vehicle boasts an EPA-estimated range of 212 miles. If you want to acquire a Countryman SE similar to the one featured here for the upcoming week, be prepared to shell out $51,145.

These figures might seem underwhelming at first glance. In the coming week, my objective is to determine whether the Countryman SE exceeds expectations beyond its specifications. The vehicle comes equipped with Mini’s latest user interface featuring a circular OLED display. My question remains: Is this setup impressive, or should Mini consider calling it quits?
