Army HQ Launches Third Capacity-Building Workshop in Abuja
The Nigerian Army Headquarters Department of Special Services and Programs (DSSP) has initiated the third iteration of its Capacity Building Workshop focused on Protocol and Liaison Responsibilities.
This was included in a statement provided to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday.
As per the announcement, the event set for 8-10 April 2025 will be conducted at the TYB Hall of the Nigerian Army War College in Asokoro, Abuja.
Titled "Harnessing Protocols and Liaisons for Effective Joint and Interagency Operations," the workshop gathers personnel from the Nigerian Army, allied organizations, and various security entities to foster knowledge sharing and enhance capabilities.
During his speech, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, was effectively represented by the Director General Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC), Major General Gbemiga Adeshina, who highlighted the crucial role of protocol and liaison functions in improving collaboration among different agencies as well as promoting the image of the Nigerian Army in domestic and global interactions.

In his earlier comments, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, who leads the Special Services and Programs for the Army, highlighted that the creation of the Directorate of Protocol in 2022 was an intentional move aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided for ceremonies, diplomacy, and communication tasks.
He highlighted the significance of ongoing education and collaboration between different agencies to stay abreast of international leading standards.
The statement also noted that during his concluding comments, the Director of Protocol, Major General KE Chigbu, expressed gratitude towards the resource persons and participants for their proactive participation. He further emphasized the significance of upholding stringent standards across all duties related to protocol and liaison work.
He encouraged the attendees to utilize the acquired knowledge for the betterment of their individual organizations and national security initiatives.
As stated, "This three-day workshop includes expert-guided presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on activities led by experienced diplomats, high-ranking military officials, and protocol specialists designed to enhance the abilities of attendees in managing intricate protocol and liaison roles."
It was highlighted that the DSSP stayed dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of its staff in alignment with the COAS' Command Philosophy. This philosophy aims at reshaping the Nigerian Army into a highly motivated and battle-prepared unit ready to execute its constitutional duties effectively within a collaborative operational setting.
