US Imports 2 Million Barrels of Jet Fuel from Dangote Refinery: An International Supply Boost

In March, the U.S. imported more than two million barrels of aviation fuel from the Dangote refinery.

On Tuesday, the refinery issued a statement confirming this, highlighting the "unequaled quality" of their products as well as the confidence the global market has in the Dangote refinery.

According to information sourced from the ship-tracking service Kpler, approximately 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel were delivered via six tankers arriving at U.S. ports this month from the Dangote refinery.

A different ship, the Hafnia Andromeda, is scheduled to reach the Everglades terminal on March 29 carrying around 348,000 barrels of jet fuel.

It became known that the deliveries from the Dangote refinery, which has a daily output of 650,000 barrels, underscore its ability to transform international fuel trade patterns, potentially becoming a key swing producer within the Atlantic Basin.

"This delivery to the United States comes after three batches of jet fuel, totaling approximately 130 million liters, were shipped from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. This refinery has previously shown it can rival European refineries in exporting gasoline. These new jet fuel deliveries to the U.S. may disrupt the financial dynamics faced by local manufacturers within the globe's biggest fuel market," the statement said.

Dr. Muda Yusuf, an economist and the CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, expressed that the shipment of jet fuel to the United States from the Dangote refinery is a source of national pride for Nigeria.

"Nothing could be more gratifying for our nation than having a refinery capable of exporting products to the United States. This highlights the excellence, adherence to high standards, and reliability that global communities associate with the Dangote refinery since these markets do not settle for less. Given their strict criteria, being approved for imports from Nigeria is indeed a matter of immense pride," he stated.
